Example Projects

GBS Architectural Limited are pleased to offer the following projects as examples of the work we have been involved in.

The Old Spinney

Brief

Below inset is an old building comprising of three main rooms with wc & kitchen, originally a single storey dwelling with high ceilings and a substantial building in it's own right. The dwelling had been vacant for some time and had become dilapidated.

Set in a large plot, the surrounding area comprised of over grown areas, unattended woodland and meadow.

Our Client's brief was to produce a large family home, retaining some of the period features of the original building while utilising modern innovations inside.

The original building was carefully taken down, retaining as much of the original brickwork as possible, in order to be reused to provide the skin of the new building.

Other features were also retained, adapted and reused, such as the internal oak archway, bulls eye window styles and oak beam ceilings.

Design and Planning

Taking onboard the Clients requirements we produced a full set of plans and elevations, submitting and obtaining planning permission from the local authority on their behalf, followed by full building regulations and on site supervision durring the construction stage.

Completion

As intended, the finished building retains the style of the original dwelling, while being much larger in footprint due to a second storey being added, thus giving a home proportionate to the surrounding land. The external appearance is of a dormer bungalow. Multiple gable ends have been used to provide large areas of glazing to the upper bedrooms allowing lots of light and givng extravegant views of the garden area, while electrically operated Velux roof lights have been utilised to offer more light and ventaltion throughout.

The main receiption hall accomodates the original oak archway and a large gallery landing over looking the main entrance hall, open roof and sloping ceilings to the first floor open up the rooms to give a grand feel to each room.
