Single Storey Rear Extension.

Brief

The Client came to us wishing to extend out the rear of their property to expand the kitchen and living room at ground floor level.

To the left we see a before photograph depicting the rear elevation of the property prior to the new extension.

As can be seen this is a typical mid sized semi detached dwelling, and the clients required an increase in the general living space, while improving the kitchen area also.

Charged with providing a solution GBS Architectural produced general plans for submission to the local authority as well as full construction plans providing the design, guidance for the builder during the construction, and detailing the required build materials.

Design and Planning

GBS Architectural Ltd designed the extension across the entire rear of the dwelling, incorporating the use of brickwork and roof tiles to match the existing property to keep it blended in with the surrounding area.

The internal space although projecting only 3.5m overall feels spacious as the roof has been design open up to the ridge, with roof lights to project large amounts of light into the dwelling, this creates the sense of a larger space than is actually constructed.

Construction Plans

Completion

The finished extension has managed to address the clients requirements while blending with style of the original building.

The success of the roof design allows for light to flood into the extension and through to the original space, while the large french doors open out onto a decked area further enhancing the experience of the expanded space into the rear garden.
